Research Methods

Interested in Research
Here are some beginning steps and suggestions (with examples) to get you started.

Create a Research Topic & Question
Settling on a topic will help you develop your research question (an essential part of the information gathering phase).

Build Your Outline
Earlier, you reviewed previous research and took notes, and quoted content from your reading on previous scholars on the topic of your research. Now it is time build your outline.

Existing Opportunities and Reasons for Your Work
Develop a literature review to give background to your review. If this is not for a master thesis, dissertation or full-length book, then you want just enough information for understanding. The areas of focus here are existing research topics and questions (not the one you came up with, necessarily), significance of your proposed work, and the reason(s) for it.

The Proposal
Your proposal can take many forms. The most important item? Check with the group you are sending the proposal to and find out if they have a standard format. Failing to use the standard format will mean a hard “No” for your proposal!
